Year after year millions of people across the world are preparing for their health and fitness focused New Year's Resolution.

Whether it is to lose weight, start the gym, train for a marathon or event or just eat 'better', so many people start off strong and then within a few weeks, forget and their resolutions dissolve into a distant memory.

So why do so many of us fail to commit?

"There isn't enough time"

"This year is a big year "

"I am exhausted"

"I can't be bothered "

"It's too expensive"

"I don't know what to do"

"It is just easier not to"

Do any of the above excuses sound familiar to you? How does this make you feel?

So, how do you set yourself a New Year's Resolution that is attainable and that you will stick to?

BE SMART

Resolution setting is all about setting SMART achievable goals that you deserve. Here's how we help you do it;

S: Specific: Have the detail in mind. For example, "I want to lose 10kgs in 9 weeks and complete my first 5km Fun Run."

M: Measurable: By making your goal measurable you are able to track your progress along the way. If you want to see your body change then taking measurements are necessary. Take these measurements at the beginning, middle and end of your chosen timeframe.

A: Attainable: Set yourself up for success. Create an attainable goal that you know you will reach.

R: Realistic: Ask yourself - is this goal realistic for me? For example, I want to lose 50kg in 9 weeks and run my first marathon in 6months". Is this realistic for your body?

T: Timely: Make sure you set yourself a reasonable timeframe and break down your goal into manageable smaller goals. Having an end date or event date will give you focus and drive to achieve your desired results. For example, "I want to lose 10kgs, run my first 5km Fun Run before my daughter's wedding by 1st March 2017."

It may sound quite simple, but Goal Setting and being specific is more of a challenge than we may realise.

Imagine if you applied this to more than just yourself but also to your family, business, life etc. You will cut through the nonsense and excuses and start to see change year after year.
