You will always see foam rollers lying around the gym and wonder what they're there for and what they do. Not just gym members but many athletes, yoga enthusiasts and physios also utilise them for their many benefits and ability to improve their body's wellbeing.
Foam rolling is defined as a self-myofascial release technique which relieves muscle soreness, tightness and inflammation, and increases your joints range of motion. The more training you do either for longer duration or higher intensity the more DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) you will experience and these symptoms will go away through proper diet and rest, but the short term solution to dealing with the pain symptoms (tighter muscles, restricted range of motion, muscle fatigue and tenderness) can be through foam rolling.
Foam rolling is amazing for your muscle's pre or post workout, as a warm up it will get the blood flowing and warms up the muscles along with preparing for depth in exercises such as squat and deadlift. As a cool down it great for bringing your heart rate back down and letting the lactic acid flush out from your system. Even foam rolling once a day randomly or before bed will no doubt improve the muscle quality and feeling a lighter sensation. The only precaution is that you don't need to overdo it, once a day is fine as more will unnecessarily tire the stretched muscle.
Get around foam rolling.
