Whether someone is currently training or not, they will assign a level of importance to their health and fitness goals. With different people come different goals and differing levels of importance, which as a trainer makes my job so interesting.

When looking at goal importance as a number out of 10, it’s easy to assume in a black and white world, high importance should equal high chance of results but that’s not always the case. Things such as age, timeline, values, lifestyle, and many more can affect your level of goal importance. Whatever your situation is, it is important to acknowledge all the factors affecting your health and fitness goals as this will impact the realistic timeline in which you can expect to achieve your desired result.

At Vision, trainers are always looking for congruency between your goals and your choices. The reason being that when you truly understand your motivations and barriers, you truly unlock your potential. I may have a Client who during their session tells me their goal importance is a 10 out of 10 for importance and then proceed to tell me how they went out over the weekend. Something does not add up with that scenario; a 10 out of 10 means nothing is more important than the goal.

Now think about what your own motivations and barriers are.

Accepting your thoughts and feelings is one of the most important parts of understanding yourself and in turn, addressing any goal. Whatever lifestyle choices you make are completely okay so long as you are open and honest with yourself. Life happens and at Vision, we are okay with that. The aim is to always navigate our own motivations and barriers while maintaining as much consistency as possible. Often the best path forward is through reflection. How am I feeling? Am I happy with my approach? Is what I’m doing in line with my expectations and efforts?

Practice this and watch yourself transform.
