Many people think that going to the gym or staying fit is for young people or for "gym junkies" however research consistently keeps coming out stating more and more benefits of older adults staying active throughout life. Take a read to find out why!
- Staying active can help lower risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke and some cancer. The benefits to longevity from maintaining strength and a healthy metabolism has been seen to help fight many killers in modern society. The evidence showing a sedentary life is a major contributor to these health implications.
- Maintain mobility, flexibility and strength. Keeping strong healthy muscle delays the onset of kyphosis, prevents falls with strong balanced legs and enhances mobility to be able to do all daily errands without pain or support.
- Delays onset of dementia. Regular exercise has been shown to reduce the risk of developing dementia by 28%. This is a drastic shift to live a longer, happier life.
As a minimum, it's suggested that 150 mins of low-moderate activity is done weekly, 70 mins of hard or vigorous cardio, 2x30 minute full body strengthening sessions. At Vision these guidelines are always taken into consideration for all exercise programs we prescribe and build for clients. For more information, reach out to the team today.
