When embarking on any health and fitness journey whether that be fitness, fat loss or muscle gain we know that one of the challenges that may pop up is staying motivated. We assume motivation is going to keep us dialled in and working hard toward our goal.

The hard truth is motivation comes and goes and unfortunately we are never going to be motivated 100% of the time. Here are 5 strategies to help you stay on track and conquer your goals, even when motivation takes a vacation:

  • Schedule Your Sweat: Treat your workouts like important appointments. Block out time with your personal trainer and stick to it religiously. Consistency is key!
  • Find Your Fitness Partner in Crime: Grab a buddy and hold each other accountable. Sign up for group classes together or challenge each other to outdoor adventures. Fun makes fitness fly by.
  • Checklist to the Rescue: Craft a daily or weekly checklist of tasks that fuel your progress. Include essentials like a high-protein breakfast or a 20-minute walk. Checking things off provides a satisfying sense of accomplishment.
  • Goals on Display: Write down your fitness goals and plaster them where you'll see them daily – bathroom mirror, fridge door, anywhere that grabs your attention. Constant reminders keep you focused on the prize. Share your goals with others for an extra layer of accountability.
  • Identify Your Danger Zones: We all have those moments when willpower weakens. Recognize your personal triggers – maybe it's the post-work slump or the irresistible aroma from your favorite takeout joint. Develop strategies to stay on course. Head straight to the gym after work, or choose a different route to avoid temptation.

Remember the key is to stay consistent doing small things consistently each day is more beneficial than trying to do it all at once. If you continue doing the habits you’ve developed it won’t matter whether you’re motivated or not.
