Happiness is not a destination it is a state of mind. I recently heard an interesting statistic. Our happiness is 10% what happens to us and 90% how we react to it. We can choose how we respond and so happiness becomes an intrinsic action. There are countless examples of people throughout history who seemingly "had it all" and were never happy and yet some of the poorest societies in the modern world wear the biggest smiles.
If we relate this to health and fitness we can see that enjoying the process is vitally important. We need to feel pleasure in the choices we make or our actions are all about the destination and will not be sustainable long term. Gradual change and the ability to see how our bodies respond and improve will make these actions become habits and eventually a lifestyle.
In my experience my happiest moments are when I am able to feel gratitude and when I have goals and focus. Try to find three things every evening to be thankful for and three things every morning that you are excited about. Having an optimistic approach to life certainly reduces stress and anxiety and improves wellbeing. After all perception is reality. So choose a happy disposition, celebrate the milestones and enjoy the journey!
