I've been fortunate enough to have been involved in Vision's 9 Week Weight Loss Challenges for the last 12 years and so I've seen some amazing results during this time. Below is my "top tips" for how you too can maximise your results during this 9 week period.
Tip 1: Decide on YOUR goal and WHY you want to achieve it. If you don't have a big enough "WHY" then you won't feel compelled to strive for it. Chat with your trainer if you need some guidance on what is realistic for this time frame.
Tip 2: Once you have decided on your goal, you need to establish what is going to be DIFFERENT during the 9 Week Challenge to any other time of the year. It is a National Competition so it's a great time to get out of your comfort zone a little and try something different. Some people are motivated by the prizes, whilst others are motivated by the friendly competition amongst friends, family and other members of the studio. Remember, "If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you always had."
Tip 3: For some people, 9 weeks can be a long time to stay focused, so I thoroughly recommend breaking the 9 Week Challenge down into 3 parts i.e. Weeks 1-3, Weeks 4-6 and Weeks 7-9. Notoriously, everyone comes out firing during the first 3 weeks and they achieve some amazing results as it's all very exciting at the start. The real "challenge", in my opinion, is the middle section i.e. Weeks 4-6. This is where the Challenge can be won or lost. It's important to stay focused during this middle period and the best way to do this is to try something new such as a group training session or maybe the introduction of Accelerator Days into your nutrition plans. After this middle period, most people tend to "crack the whip" as they realise that there are only 3 weeks remaining before the final weigh in so they want to come home strong!
Tip 4: Set WEEKLY goals that are going to propel you towards your 9 week Goal. By having these small weekly goals it will help you stay on track towards to the bigger picture. Imagine you have a ladder in front of you and your 9 Week goal is at the top of the ladder. If there aren't any rungs on the ladder (i.e. weekly goals) then you are no chance of being able to climb that ladder to get to the top (i.e. 9 Week Goal)
Tip 5: Get a training partner! Whilst you will see your Personal Trainer every week, you actually spend less than 1% of your entire week face to face with them. By having a training partner/friend you will always have someone to be able to train with you on the weekends etc. It can also be another set of "eyes" looking out for you. I am a strong believer in having a great "Circle of Influence" around you for the Challenge so make sure you choose wisely!
