There's no mincing words, making big changes to your health is never going to be easy. The reality is most of us start out with good intentions, but the momentum soon fizzles out and when Janet from accounting brings in a bottle of bubbly on Friday to celebrate her promotion, and we fall spectacularly off the rails.

It's a vicious cycle of guilt and retribution that is emotionally exhausting, and it's safe to say the majority of us have wasted a great deal of time in this very cycle. We are spending more on the health, but our waistlines are continuing to grow with two-thirds of us overweight or obese. So, what's the solution?

Your best friend is your best weapon

It's no secret that the reason a lot of people ditch their plans for improved health is because it can be socially isolating. We are the average of our closest friends. So, whether it's your partner, your best friend or your workmates, it's time to get them to join you on your journey to better health. Don't have a partner or any willing friends? Nab yourself a workout buddy at the studio. It will not only keep you both accountable, but make the experience more enjoyable well into the long-term.

Get your friends in on the meal-prepping bandwagon

Plan some time aside with your friends or family to plan meals together for the week. Spend an afternoon cooking up healthy meals or batches of brown rice or quinoa to freeze in portion sized bags so you have carbs on the go. Go for a walk with your friends instead of coffee and cake. Have kids? Great. Get them to start learning about food by making healthy meals with you. Including your loved ones on your journey will also help to dissolve any resistance they're putting up as a result of fear, guilt or annoyance at the changes you're making.

Attend Shopping Tours and Seminars

Become a part of a healthy community, such as Vision Personal Training Hunter Street, and the results will come. As the saying goes, if you want to be successful, you need to make sure everyone in your boat is rowing with you, instead of drilling holes when you're not looking. Vision Personal Training Hunter Street offers monthly shopping tours and seminars. Use these as an opportunity to find out more, ask questions and learn new tips and tricks from the professionals. All it costs is some of your time.

Make it fun!

Last but not least, find an activity or exercise you both enjoy. Make it fun so you're more likely to keep it up. Find healthy foods you enjoy. A lifestyle change should lift you up, not make you feel like you're in some low-carb prison.
