There's always a daunting feeling that accompanies first time experiences, so confronting our current state of health is naturally going to make us feel anxious.

The words "personal trainer" can conjure up images in our heads of pumped up meatheads, tight lycra-wearing models or drill sergeants yelling at you biggest loser style.  These are the trainers of yesteryear, thank goodness!

The current leaders in the personal training industry reflect a changing trend towards trainers that are empathetic, inspiring and encouraging.  These trainers are passionate individuals whose main goal is to make you feel welcome in your new training environment and not intimidated.  Many of them have experience life-changing results and they understand what it's like when embarking on the health and wellness path.  These trainers are excited and get energy from the prospect of being able to help guide someone like you, to results that lead to an overall happier and healthier life.

Going to the gym or starting with a PT does not need to be a scary experience.

Most facilities start with an initial consultation.  This is a great opportunity for you to ease the nerves, take a look around the facility, check out the equipment and discuss your goals so that they can develop a program that you will benefit from.

Consultations are normally done with the facility owner or a senior trainer who is experienced at helping people like you feel comfortable, welcome and excited to get started.

If you are particularly nervous, then small appointment only facilities are a great way to ease into the process, as you will be working alone and one on one with a trainer.  On the other hand, if you are outgoing and excited then dive right into the community aspect and team within the studio.  Both of these options can work well to get started and really get quick results.  Whatever your personality, be aware that starting is the most difficult step, be reassured that by dealing with a professional and making a plan that you will be on your way to achieving your goals.
