Winterize your workout!! ... It can be tough to motivate yourself to get out and exercise when its cold outside, however exercise can boost your mood, which can change everything.  Jot down an exercise you are going to strive to do each day that week and set small goals around it, whether it be distance, time, or even so many songs, then once you achieve it at the end of the week, reward yourself with something small such as a mani-pedi, massage, even your favourite body lotion.  Having something to reward you at the end can make all the difference.  Also it may seem cold outside, but exercising outside can boost your spirits!

Eat your way to upbeat ... Try to avoid anything processed, as they play havoc with your sugar levels, which leads to overeating and feeling lethargic.  Reach for healthy comfort foods which can double up as health pick me ups, as they contain mood boosting nutrients like omega 3 fatty acids, good carbohydrates such as wholegrains and vegetables, protein and Vitamin B.  A suggestion would be oats for breakfast as it contains fibre rich whole grains which increase serotonin, the feel good chemical in your brain and they also steady your sugar levels.  For lunch make some homemade chicken and veggie soup for the good carbohydrates, protein and a bit of wholesome warmth.  For dinner reach for salmon, full of omega 3.

Get your group training on! ... Humans are not meant to hide away in our dens in winter, so get out and socialise.  Socialising is a very powerful way to boost your mood.  Come along to a group exercise session and get some exercise whilse socialising.  Grab a coffee aftrerwards as a reward.  Great way to do something without having to really think about it as its fun!

Plan a great escape ... There's not much to look forward to if you do not have a goal to work towards.  The best thing to do is plan a holiday or weekend away and count down the days to it.  Align your health and fitness goal around that break and suddenly you have a reason to exercise and a goal that is measurable to a specific date.  Dreaming about it will lift your mood immediately.

See the light ... Your body needs Vitamin D to help regulate your mood.  When your skin is exposed to daylight, your body produces it and gives you a boost in your mood.  Winter may seem gloomy, however getting out for a walk in the middle of the day and exposing yourself to the little sunlight we have in the winter, will help raise your Vitamin D levels and make you feel so much more happier and energetic.  Consider a supplement if you think you do not get enough of it.

Go on..enjoy the winter!!!!
