When everything is going well, and you're getting the results you want, it's pretty easy to stay motivated and on track, right? But what about those days when we wake up and we just don't feel like doing anything. How do we motivate ourselves to push through and continue doing what we need to do on a daily basis?

Whether it's fitness, family or work related, we all have those days when we don't feel like doing anything and just lying in bed. Of course, we can't do just that, but we scrape through the day doing the bare minimum, not progressing towards our goals, and then going to sleep still feeling unmotivated.

So, the real question is, how do we keep motivated and continue pushing through during the tough times; to continue seeing results and reigniting our motivation?

To keep it simple, plan ahead. Be aware that these days happen to everyone, and the easiest way to get through them is by having a list of things that need to be done, and simply doing them without putting too much thought into it. Thinking about the bigger picture, goal or final product, and breaking it down into smaller tasks that can be done on a daily basis is going to make completing each task a lot more realistic.

If you have a goal of running 10km without stopping, don't think about it as 1 big run with a due date. You'll be much better off breaking it down into day by day training sessions that need to be done, and specifically focusing on what needs to be done today. Before you know it, you'll be able to run the 10km before the due date.

When you get through one of these tough days and have done everything that needs to be done, it is almost guaranteed that when you wake up the next day you'll be feeling much better and more motivated to get back on track.

If you're still struggling with motivation, another area to think about is; why did we lose our motivation for that time period? Was the goal we set too big and unrealistic? Or was it too small and insignificant? Setting a SMART goal is always going to be the best way to keep yourself on track towards a meaningful goal. (SMART means Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic and Timely)

Doing this on a regular basis is going to allow you to get into the routine of breaking down tasks and getting them done, therefore becoming much more efficient and being able to plan and break down bigger and better goals.

Good luck!
