"People achieve amazing things when they are ready to achieve them."

What does that actually mean for your goals?

Being 'ready' can mean a variety of things to different people, some can see it as wanting to be different, to have a desire to change… But what causes this? what I've found is that it takes something drastic to happen to us to suddenly realize that we aren't where we want to be in life - whether it be our health, financial situation or any variable factor that affects what we really want to achieve. This can cause us to be eager to strive and set goals and achieve them. What many people find though is that they are all too eager to set goals and try to achieve them straight away without identifying what they need to change to achieve them.

I ask you this, how many times have you told yourself that you wanted to do something and couldn't follow through and find yourself feeling disappointed and overwhelmed? Personally, I have and I really struggled to understand why things wouldn't work for me. I failed to understand how important it is to be ready for the results I wanted. There are 3 very important steps to achieving success in whatever the goals you have. Andrew Simmons talks about this extensively in his book 'Ready, Set, Go: 3 Steps to Better Health'. The first step, being ready, lays the foundation of how successful you will be. Without this first step the goals you SET can be unrealistic and when we GO we can find ourselves running in circles struggling to get ahead.

This leads me to what it means to be 'ready' for results. To me being ready means understanding where you are is a reflection of how you let yourself get there. I like to think of it this way, if we want to be 20kgs lighter, we have to look at ourselves truthfully and ask the question "why aren't I 20kgs lighter today?," There is a reason we aren't the weight we want to be and by understanding these reasons and accepting them and acknowledging that to be the person who is 20kgs lighter, you have to act like the person who is 20kgs lighter. You have to think, what does that version of myself do every day? How often does this person exercise? What food does this person eat? What is this person's outlook on life?

Until we can picture this person and identify what we need to change to become our ideal self, we will struggle to; first achieve the results we want and secondly to maintain the results long term. A great way of identifying how ready you are, is by completing the "Readiness to Change" questionnaires in Vision Virtual Training and talk to your trainer about what you have learnt from them. It's not uncommon to find things that you aren't ready to change and that is completely fine, by being able to understand what you are and are not ready to change will give you the ability to set realistic goals and, slowly, by changing just one thing at a time… one week at a time… you can achieve great things.

In Summary, there is 3 key questions you need to answer before you SET your goals and GO achieve them.

  1. Why aren't I where I want to be now?
  2. What do I need to change to get to where I want to be?
  3. What can I realistically change and adhere to TODAY?

After you have answered these questions in their entirety, you are now READY for results!
