After I got my first job one of the first things that I had on my list of things that I wanted to do, as many 19 year old guys do, was start to working out. The only problem was that I had no clue how or where to start. After talking to some friends, I got a recommendation to try Vision. So I decided to give it a go and I signed up. This was a little over two years ago, and I can confidently recommend Vision to anyone who is interested.

In my experience getting started is often the most difficult part of starting something new, and the gym is no exception to this. When I started, I trained with Christian (the owner here at Vision). He taught me all the basics, and more importantly worked with me to set achievable goals, and create clear plans to achieve said goals. My experience of Vision is that it is a place where people go to improve, and the values of their trainers reflect this. They will push you to achieve the goals that you set. They will hold you accountable, and will fully expect you to also work towards your own goals.

However, even the best plans have setbacks, and this is where continuing to go to the gym becomes far more difficult. In this respect, the trainers at Vision are also well equipped and experienced with creating flexible plans that can cater to your situations and needs. For example, I ended up working through a shoulder injury, and my trainer at the time adjusted the workouts to avoid worsening the injury, and recommended stretches & exercise which helped to fix it. During these times having somebody to keep you on track can really help, and is a significant advantage over trying to do it all yourself. Essentially one of the key advantages of having a personal trainer is that they can adjust workout plans to suit your life, as opposed to a more static workout plan which assumes that nothing ever goes wrong.

Initially one of the reasons I started working out was to, no surprises here, be more attractive to women. Although I found my hard won muscles were impressing more men than women, I still managed to find some success. I bring this up to highlight that at this point I had achieved many of my initial goals, and as such I started to develop new goals.

At this point I started to work out because I genuinely enjoy it, and as a challenge to myself. As such I started to take it more seriously. However, at this point I was no longer a complete beginner, I knew how to work out by myself and the needs that I had were quite different to when I started. At around this point I started training with William who I have now been training with for the past year. I focused on building muscle, and with his help I made huge progress that I can now look back on with pride. I managed to gain about 14kg since I first started, going from 64kg to 78kg (with most of that being muscle), and have become far stronger, more than doubling the amount of weight in many of my lifts.

This is all to say that your fitness goals will not necessarily stay the same, and the trainers at Vision are able to adapt and continue to help you beyond your initial goal, as the ultimate goal is not the just lose a couple of kilograms of fat or improve how much weight you can lift, it is to remain at a healthy weight and continue to improve your strength.

My journey with Vision has taken me from a computer science student with no experience working out, to a full time software engineer with a passion for fitness. To anyone reading this I cannot recommend Vision enough. I wish you the best of luck in your fitness journey, wherever it may take you.
