Congratulations! Simply by reading this you have taken a step towards improving your Health & Fitness and making that commitment to a healthy lifestyle long-term.
Today we're going to look at three steps you must take to ensure you get the most out of your journey, and not only get great results, but keep those results for life and enjoy the process each and every day.
1. Are you READY to make changes?
The first step is to determine your level of readiness and to ask yourself what you're willing to change and commit to and what you're not willing to change in your life.
There are no right or wrong answers in this step, it's simply having an honest look at yourself and what you know you can do. We all go through different levels of readiness and stages of change in our life across many different areas. What you need to look at today is where you're at in terms of readiness to change your eating habits, exercise habits, alcohol habits, sleeping habits and preparation habits.
Ask yourself questions like, am I willing to give up treat foods as rewards during the week? If the answer to these sorts of questions is mainly YES, then you'll have greater chances of success. If the answer is NO, again it's not a bad thing, it just means that this might not be the right time in your life to aim for big changes in your Health & Fitness habits and will only set you up for failure.
2. WHY do you want to achieve your goals?
What's driving you? What's motivating you? What's the reason you want to make change and focus on your Health & Fitness?
Having goals are great and gives you something to aim for, but knowing within yourself WHY those goals are important to you and WHY they matter to you is what fuels the fire.
So, ensure you take time to reflect on those reasons and they do light a fire within you, because then the journey will become so much easier. When the going gets tough (and it will), you'll be more motivated to push through when you remind yourself of WHY you're doing it.
When you're thinking about your WHY behind your goals, remember we're more motivated by avoiding pain, then we are by moving towards pleasure. What's your pain? How does that make you feel?
3. WHO's supporting you?
Research has shown that one of the biggest factors in determining one's success is the people they surround themselves with. Your Circle of Influence is the 5 people you spend the most time with (family, friends, coaches, work colleagues).
So, no matter how focused and motivated you are, if you surround yourself with negative and unsupportive people, the likelihood of success is slim. You must take a good hard look at your circle of influence to ensure they're uplifting people that will support you and your goals all the way through to the finish.
If you can tick off the three areas we've just covered, you're in a really good position to begin your Health & Fitness journey and your chances of success with your goals is high. Your mindset is the key to your success and if you keep revisiting these three main areas and stay on top of them then the sky is the limit!
