We have all been there and it's hard to sometimes feel like you are making any progress, but below I'm going to breakdown three of the main reasons why you may not be seeing the results that you are expecting.
You aren't giving it enough time
It would be so nice to have the body of your dreams after eating healthy for a few weeks right? Unfortunately it's not the way it works, that isn't a realistic expectation. Visible progress takes time, discipline, commitment and hard work.
Instead, to avoid disappointment focus on a number of other aspects rather than just your appearance. Are you sleeping better? Are your energy levels higher? Is your mood more positive? Results and progress is more than just the physical.
The rest will come, be patient!
You are setting unrealistic expectations
If your goals and expectations are too high then you are very likely to experience disappointment. And let me tell you there is no worse feeling than disappointment. Don't over reach or set something that you know full well you aren't going to be able to achieve, whether this be a weight goal, a step target, or a specific time for a workout.
There is nothing wrong with having big goals but you must ensure that you first set simple goals that will act as the stepping stones to your big goal.
Extreme nutrition
People most of the time look for 'quick nutritional fixes' to lose weight. They see the latest fad diet or trend which everyone is participating in and decide to join. It is also very common for people to restrict themselves thinking that it's the easiest and most effective way to see results, yet they find out it's not so that inevitably results in craving unhealthy foods and bingeing. This creates a vicious cycle which can be hard to break.
Food should not be your enemy. You need to enjoy what you eat and ensure that what you eat is sustainable in the long term. Making sure you are adding variety and not eliminating any food groups will ensure better adherence day in and day out.
Just remember, progress takes time. Trust the process and be patient. This is a marathon not a sprint.
