Everyone associates fat as a terrible thing for weight gain and poor health and fitness, but not all fats are the same and there are great benefits to certain fat sourced foods which can contribute to great wellbeing.
The common concept in the fitness industry is that the less fat the better, most bodybuilders want little to no body fat percentage and the most common reason for training is to get rid of it. The biggest concern is visceral fat which is the fat around our organs and if it is in excess will cause disease and illness. And what causes the build-up of stored fats in the body is many things such as heavy carb diet with little exercise, excess alcohol consumption, high amounts of stress, lack of sleep and all the favourite sugar foods such as lollies, chocolate and soft drinks. And essentially what happens is people consume these risky foods and don't burn them off via training so it gets stored as energy and just builds and builds and builds into a very bad picture.
And that's the common theme, but there is a silver lining to good fats. Omega 3, 6 and 9 fats also provide a great service to the body. Fats regulate and control your energy levels when they fluctuate up and down keeping your mood and blood sugar levels consistent. Not only this but a great energy source, maintains body temperature and even manufactures sex and adrenal hormones. Most importantly where you find these foods are in many oils such as olive oil (omega 6), many cold water fish like salmon (omega 3) and a list of others such as avocadoes, whole eggs, milk and cheese.
And this is why we all must have some fats in our diet within reason.
