How were things before you joined Vision?
Over the last 5 years my health had slowly got worse and worse. A mixture of long days sitting at a desk, bad posture, no activity, quite a bit of fast food and alcohol led to me putting on over 15kg. I wasn't sleeping, constantly stressed, type 1 diabetes wasn't under control, no energy and always tired. I'd previously had some attempts to lose weight via running or gym memberships but usually tried to do too much too quickly and get injured and demotivated after a few weeks, meaning it never stuck.
Tell me about your latest journey (the highlight of it).
I decided late last year to take a few months off to focus on getting healthy, particularly finding something that I could sustain. In May I finished up at my job and joined Vision. The main difference this time was the holistic approach, from the psychology of what parts of the journey are going to be most tricky, what my goals are, getting a good idea of my starting point, help with my nutrition and food (particularly focusing on switching foods/brands over just eating less), how to train with proper form, and how to stretch/recover properly so I wouldn't get as sore and be less likely to get injured. The thing I'm most proud of is the consistency I've been able to keep up with nutrition, meal tracking, and workouts and classes.
What results have you achieved lately?
I recently passed 10kg of weight lost. I'm able to run over 10km which is the furthest ever. I was also able to do my first pull-up since I was a teenager.
What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining Vision?
Consistency is everything. Focus on how to make it as easy as possible to be consistent. If something feels like you wouldn't be able maintain it for 12 months, then talk to your trainer, talk with other people at Vision, or use the other Vision resources to tweak it and find a way that better works for you. Celebrate and feel proud of following the process more than the weigh-ins. Vision knows the science of what will work to achieve your goals, the personal part is how to make it simple and easy for you to follow that, based on your life, preferences, goals, and personality. It doesn't need to be a struggle.
