Heidi, like a lot of women in their 50s spent their 20s, 30s and early 40s leading busy lives, burning candles at both ends with a family, work and social life. When the perimenopause hit, Heidi adapted but the weight started to go on. In menopause, Heidi started to really struggle with muscular pain and arthritis. After being told by specialists she would need a full knee replacement and probable hip replacement at 54 Heidi decided to get serious about her health. In 9 months Heidi went from unable to walk more than a few meters without significant hip and knee pain to doing a 22km hike in Kosciusko over two days.

She got their by discussing goals with the PT which were:

  • Change body composition by increasing muscle and losing fat.
  • Strengthening knees and hips through targeted exercises determined by her personal trainer.
  • Strengthened core which stabilised the hip, through targeted exercises determined by her personal trainer.
  • Weekly massage or acupuncture to help release tight fascia and deal with tightness as it arose so not to fall backwards.
  • Lower inflammation by addressing the diet.
  • Lose 5 kilos to take weight off knees.

Heidi made gym and completing the PT vision app a priority. Daily logging of meals and exercise seemed laborious for the first few days but like any habit became second nature after two weeks.

What was the PT vision difference to Heidi?

'I think personal training when you have existing injuries and high inflammation requires a lot out of the personal trainer. They need to be educated, they need resources and understanding of where to go when you can't use certain muscle groups due to pain and injury. They need to help you with the diet.  Benny was incredible - his level of understanding and training meant at the start we did lots of functional training that you might see at the exercise physio to get me strong enough. I love the bioscan and the Vision app which is so much better than the myfitnesspal app for logging meals'. I do 30 minutes training 3 x a week and am still shocked how strong I have become. I am now many years away from having any joints replaced. Not only have I got healthier, stronger, have dropped my bio age and increased my longevity but I have saved a fortune in money in the process as I don't need surgery! '
